Ep 35: God Given Identity

Have you ever asked God what he calls you? Chris and I discuss what can happen when you fully understand your identity in Christ. When you know what God calls you, you will begin to do life differently. Satan attacks your identity, because God works through your identity.
So how can you learn what God calls you? Learn from others, learn from books, and learn from podcasts. Ask yourself "what are all the things that you think people say about you that are not true?" and then ask about all the things someone who loves you would say about you. Now you are getting close to your identity!
We hope that as Chris discusses his journey of discovering what God calls him, you will be able to learn the same thing about yourself.

Ep 34: Don't Buy the Fake

Last week we had a technical glitch that prevented us from posting a video, so this week we are glad to be able to post our video.
In this episode, Chris gives us an update on his house journey, and how he has committed to continue to focus on the last thing God told him to do. In this case, God has not told he and Julie to move yet.
Then in Luke 22:30-46, Robert and Chris discuss Jesus's admonition to the disciples to "Pray that you don't fall into temptation." What an interesting command considering Jesus knew that they were about to walk through some of the darkest hours on earth. Jesus knew they were going to fall into temptation, but he also knew that they were meant to be the foundation of the church.
So if you are going to "pray that you don't fall into temptation", what should you pray for? Ask for wisdom. Ask for protection from satan. Don't buy the fake!

Ep 33: A Good Aroma

2 Corinthians 2:15-17 talks about being a "sweet aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved...", and Chris and I take some time to discuss what that means. We talk about how disciples of Jesus have a fragrance of life and to those who do not follow Jesus an odor of death. 
Why is that so? How can we take a spiritual shower? How do make sure we are a sweet aroma for Christ? The answer is that we a learn to be thankful to God for what he has done.

Ep 32: Don't be Disqualified

Chris gets this podcast rolling before I have a chance to catch up, and we have a good time with it. He tells his journey with working out, and some wise advice he got... "Do it or Do not do it!". Well thank you Yoda :-)... He tells his story of discipline in the gym and how that translates to his spiritual walk.
In 1 Corinthians 9:24-27, Paul calls us to "run to win!" the spiritual race we are in, and warns us about the dangers of being disqualified. Chris and I discuss things like creating action steps, not just religious behavior, and how drills create muscle memory in sports and in our spiritual walk. Ep 31: Jesus Taught Persistence and Promised the Holy Spirit

In Luke 11:1-13, the disciples of Jesus ask him to teach them to pray. He gives them a quick instruction on how to pray in what most know as the "Lord's Prayer". Then he goes a bit further...
He teaches them that persistence pays off, and that we should not so easily give up when praying to God. He also articulates the fact that if earthly fathers know how to give good gifts (we are talking about good fathers), then how much more does our heavenly father. In fact, he promises to give us much more of the Holy Spirit.

Ep 30: Talk About God's Faithfulness and Character

Chris and I have a great discussion about what Moses teaches the Israelites just prior to entering the promise land. Interestingly enough, it is a passage that we both took notes on when we read it.
In Deuteronomy 10&11, Moses takes the entire Israelite nation back through all of God's miraculous works, and his commands for living in the promise land. He describes blessings for those that follow His commands and curses for those that choose to disobey. He instructs them to teach their children the history of God's faithfulness and His character.
If you were to ask of this daily reading, "What do you want me to know?" and "What do you want me to do?" We would suggest this is a model for how we are to live our lives with our kids and those around us. Tell them about God's faithfulness, teach them about His character, and demonstrate what it means to live in relationship with God.

Ep 29: Some Things Don't Go to Plan

This week Chris and I have both had some pretty long weeks and we had it in our plan to discuss what we do when we are smoked. Unfortunately, we had some serious technical difficulties, and we have decided to publish what we did get. Chris is a little more giddy than normal due to his lack of sleep, and Robert has to make do with what was recorded.
We hope that despite the cut short podcast you will draw near to God this week and remember to "He says, 'Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth. The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.'" Psalms 46:10-11

Ep 28: Don't be an Easy Target

It was spring break for Chris's kids, and he got to see three small birds take on a falcon. The falcon did not want any part of that as those three birds ran him off.
It is reminiscent of what King Solomon says about working together and friendship. Ecclesiastes 4:12 says, "Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken." The wisdom of King Solomon's words here are the fact that isolation and moral erosion go hand in hand, and the devil is looking for an easy target.
Don't be an easy target! Find a good group of Christ followers to hang out with, serve with, or take care of. This life was not meant to be done alone.

Ep 27: Faith Over Familiar

This week Chris and I discuss something I came across in my daily reading this week. In Numbers 13&14, we see the Israelites come up to the edge of the promise land only to refuse to enter based on a bad report.
Why even send the spies into the land in the first place? Did God need to know what was going on in the land? Of course not, He was well aware of the depravity of the inhabitants of the promise land the people of Israel were meant to drive out, and more importantly, God was aware of the impossibility of the task at hand without Him.
As Chris says, "It wouldn't take faith to step into the promise land if they didn't know what they were up against. In fact, it does not take faith to step into the familiar. We are hoping this week that you begin to ask Jesus to do something through your life that you cannot do on your own. That is real faith! That is transformational!

Ep 26: Tools of the Trade

Sadly Chris is back home and we are stuck recording our podcast from our normal locations vice in person. That did not stop us from having a great conversation about how we approach the study of scripture. We often get asked, "How do you get so much out of it?" when we study scripture, and today is a discussion on the tools we use when we study.
Walk with us as we discuss the importance of context, and the acronym (POPES) Chris uses to get more out of his daily reading. We also talk cross referencing, commentaries, and google. Our hope is that you take one of our tools and use it in your personal study of God's word.
P = Promise - Is there a promise in the text? O = Obey - Is there a command to obey? P = Principle - Is there a kingdom principle to take away? E = Example - Is there an example to follow? S = Sin - Is there a sin to avoid?
